Forensic Science is an amalgamation of almost all faculties of knowledge. It is an essential and efficient enabler in the dispensation of justice in criminal, civil, regulatory and social contexts. Some government and private universities offer forensic science courses currently.
There is however a need for improvement in the quality of education as well as training & research in the discipline of forensic sciences. Some NGOs and private organisations like the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) are trying to fill in the gaps by offering courses like Masters in Forensic Sciences.
What are forensic science courses?
Forensic experts scientifically investigate a crime scene, gather clues, work on the facts and verify the same through laboratory examinations. Subsequently, the data is submitted to the investigating agencies for speedy investigations and furnished to the court as evidence and proof. This expedites the proceedings and leads to fair verdicts.
The education and training in this entire process are what the forensic science courses impart to you. The students of forensic sciences learn all the aspects of collecting evidence, examining them and preparing and submitting reports.
What jobs are available after the Masters in Forensic Science?
Once you have completed your Masters in forensic science, there are plenty of career opportunities in the field. So far most jobs were in the government sector, but increasingly some private sector organisations are also offering jobs to people with degrees in forensic sciences.
The leading employers of people with degrees in forensic sciences are various law enforcement agencies such as police, the legal system, the investigative services of the central government and state governments.
Intelligence Bureau, (IB), Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), and the police department absorb most of those who have studied forensic sciences.
In the private sector, forensic scientists are employed by private security and investigating agencies, psychiatric and substance abuse hospitals and medical and diagnostic laboratories.
So a bright future awaits those with a degree in forensic sciences from a good institute. You can download and read the prospectus for Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) website .
